The Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation was created to meet the cultural needs of Inland North San Diego County through an annual professional entertainment season. But it was also created to help fulfill the instructional need for Arts in Education in area schools through an assortment of programs including in-school workshops and assemblies, Master Classes with visiting artists and a one-week, all-expenses paid theater camp held at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. In 2010, the Missoula Actor/Director team conducted fun and educational interactive Theatre workshops for third and fourth grade students at Willow Grove, Canyon View and Pomerado Elementary Schools.
We are tremendously proud to serve more than 2,400 local students through a variety of Arts programs.

Introduction to Instruments
Underwritten by the Phillip and Shauna Schneider Family Fund
For six years, the POW! Foundation has hosted an Introduction to Instruments program designed to offset the district cuts to the 4th grade music program. Each year, the Foundation sponsors a team of PUSD high school band students who host assemblies with all the 4th graders in the district. Under the direction of the band director, high schools students present the various instrument groups – woodwind, brass, percussion and more – in an environment that is entertaining, delightful and engaging with an emphasis on encouraging participation in the 5th grade music programs. Serving all 25 PUSD elementary schools, the four PUSD high schools and includes approximately 2400 students, educators have deemed this program critical to the preservation of the instrumental music program in a school district held in high acclaim nationwide.
Missoula Children’s Theatre
Underwritten by the San Diego Foundation's Betsy Dam Fund for Arts Education
For twelve seasons the POW! Foundation has presented The Missoula Children’s Theater, the nation’s preeminent participatory youth theater program. More than 50 area youth participate in a one-week, all-expenses paid theater camp that takes them from auditions to rehearsals to a full-scale musical production in just six days. In March of 2011, they will return to present The Wizard of Oz.
San Diego Young Audiences Radio Theatre Program
This partnership between the POW! Foundation and San Diego Young Audiences Foundation enables students to create and perform their own radio drama. The students meet once-a-week for an hour to write scripts, produce sound effects and practice a variety of vocal techniques before presenting the finished show before a school-wide assembly. The final performance of the Radio Theater Programs is a spirited and surprisingly mature performance before an assembly of students and family members.
